A Comprehensive Model for Sustainable and Competitive Management of Tourism Destinations

Resumo:

Tourism sustainability management is a complex process that involves a variety of factors, such as environmental, social, and economic factors. The sustainability approach in tourism has evolved into a dominant paradigm in tourism research and is becoming a crucial element for achieving tourism competitiveness. This paper proposes a comprehensive model for sustainable and competitive management of tourism destinations. The model aims to identify the most competitive beaches and subdistricts in terms of sustainability and suggest criteria for evaluating sustainable competitive destinations. An analysis of tourism destination product and destination competitive models is conducted, accompanied by an extensive review of sustainable indicators. To better address the components of sustainable management of competitive tourism destinations, the model was revisited and re-evaluated, bearing in mind the three pillars of sustainability (environmental, socioeconomic, and social). The model provides a robust tool for the management and evaluation of competitive destinations. It can be used by managers and policymakers in various destinations to evaluate and enhance their tourism competitiveness.
