Anxiety and activism in response to climate change
Resumo:Climate change is on the rise; so are its human impacts. Evidence from multiple disciplines demonstrates ways in which climate change is affecting cities, livelihoods, and human health [1]. The full breadth of impacts on people and communities can only be understood by considering psychological responses and social relation ships. This essay reviews ways in which climate change threatens psychological wellbeing, how social relationships can be a source of additional stress or a buffer, and how the activism that is needed to encourage societal adaptation can also promote individual resilience. We close with thoughts about future directions.
